If you live in Doncaster then I am sure you will agree, it is hard to imagine a time before Nellie Stagles and the ‘Nellie Stagles School of Theatre Dance’.
“Nellie Stagles” is almost an institution and we have been part of the Towns cultural life since December 1936, when at the tender age of 17 Miss Stagles opened her dancing school. A young and slightly nervous Nellie opened the doors of her school in January 1937, at the Empire Ballroom, Hexthorpe. Up until her demise in 2007 (at the age of 87), her passion and desire for art of dance remained unchanged.
Although we don’t look it, the ‘Nellie Stagles School of Theatre Dance’ turned 75 years old on 1st September 2012 - my goodness did we celebrate in style! Although Miss Stagles is no longer here with us in person, if you look closely across all our studios, it is ever more apparent that she is certainly with us in spirit and remains in the hearts and thoughts of all of us.
It was at our ‘75th Birthday Ball’, in the luxurious Ballroom at The Earl of Doncaster Hotel, where over 150 family, friends, teachers and pupils – both past and present, raised a glass to Miss Stagles and the school.
Still to this day, the ‘Nellie Stagles School of Theatre Dance’ remains one of the largest and most successful schools in South Yorkshire and Doncasters premier school of dance with hundreds of dedicated pupils attending dancing classes every week, now with five studios throughout Doncaster. The teachers and pupils alike work extremely hard, balancing hard work and dedication with a fun and caring learning environment. It is this balance that ensures we continue with our 100% success rate in all our I.D.T.A and R.A.D examinations.
As a school, we have always promoted a real sense of family and community spirit and I feel that this is still today reflected in our teaching practices.
'Nellie Stagles School of Theatre Dance’ remains one of the largest and most successful schools in South Yorkshire and Doncaster.
Our school continues to be a regular feeder for the Royal Ballet School, Northern Ballet School and many other Stage Schools in the Country.
The school rejoices in its 75th birthday along with Miss Julie, our school Principal, celebrating her 35th teaching year at the school.
